This year has been challenging for many people. With major highs and lows, this year was a roller coaster. Now that the holidays are upon us, here are a few simple ways to find holiday cheer!

First, we can surround our everyday environments with festive joy. A small poinsettia plant on our desk or a pine scented air-freshener in our car can help carry the season with us when we are not at home with our Christmas tree, a Hanukkah menorah, or similar decorations for those who celebrate other holidays. Not only will this brighten our day, but others’ as well. A coworker can see our effort and instantly feel the warmth of the holiday.

Another suggestion is to donate to others. Whether it is our time, gifts, or food, giving to others helps us feel better about ourselves, while also coming to the aid of another. This time of year can be difficult emotionally and/or financially on many people. Putting in a little effort to show someone that they are loved and cared about could make their whole season.

A great way to get into the spirit is to relive a childhood tradition. Some families bake special cookies, read aloud a specific holiday book, paint ornaments, or drive around to look at lights. As we get older, some of these traditions fall to the wayside. It may be time to bring them back! And since we used to do these activities as kids, the child-like feelings of Christmas will return.

A simple way to feel more festive is to watch a holiday movie or listen to Christmas songs. Holiday movies, especially the classics, have a way of reminding us what is important and bring back holiday spirit. Christmas songs, as well, have a great way of boosting morale. If you have a streaming service, such as Pandora or Spotify, you can easily pull up many playlists and even shuffle in a holiday playlist with your normal music.

When we maintain an optimistic mood in the spirit of the holiday, it is easier to spread Christmas cheer to others. Being in the moment and happy is contagious, and others will feel the same way too. The kindness you show will multiply.

Being more considerate is also a great way to help others who may have lost their holiday spirit. Positivity spreads quickly and puts others in a better mood. This time of year is all about giving and showing appreciation for others.

With that being said, I would like to show my appreciation for you! May this time of year meet you all with love, happiness, kindness, and prosperity. I am truly grateful for all of you! By supporting and encouraging me, you allow me to live my dreams and share my passions with the world.

Wishing you all happy holidays and a blessed 2017!

Hugs~Darlene Quinn
