Fall or Autumn, no matter what you call this time of year I think we can all agree it’s a fantastic season for countless reasons. Our ancestors made it a time to reflect on the past year, enjoy the feast of our labor and to think about all of our many blessings. There are many reasons fall is a magical, but here are 5 reasons I think we can all agree on.

The Weather

Somewhere between the heat of summer and the frigid cold of winter, Fall delights our senses with cool weather that’s just right. It’s the time of year when we bring out our favorite sweaters to enjoy the cool air as we watch fiery leaves slip from their branches one by one, slowly teetering to the ground. It’s the time of year when a bonfire lights up our eyes and the eyes of our loved ones gathered around.

The Food

There’s a reason Fall is associated with great feasts. The harvest season is a time for countless crops to make their way from our farms to our communities. Apples, nuts, pumpkins, and more, all ready to fill our bellies. We turn them into delightful desserts—pies, pastries, candied nuts, apple cider. We gather around full tables of turkey, dressing, potatoes and greens to commemorate the successful year and to break bread with our loved ones.

The Love

It’s no secret that Fall is a time when sparks fly. Perhaps it’s the cooler weather pulling us closer together, the glimmering lights that add to the twinkle in our eye or the nostalgia the season recalls. Love finds a way of pulling people closer together this time of year. The love we have for our families is reignited too, as we gather together and enjoy each other’s company over warm cups of coffee or slices of pie.

The Reflection

Fall is our first reminder that good things end, and new beginning commence. We begin thinking about our year. What we’re thankful for. What we hope to accomplish in the coming year. This reflection is important as it gives us both perspective and hope. As we sit down to our Thanksgiving feasts, this process comes to its ultimate conclusion, as we hear the humility of our friends and family and share our own. I would also like to say that my heart goes out to those facing difficult challenges such as the devastation brought about in the Southern CA fires and whatever else is affecting those in other parts of our nation and world.

Fall is a wonderful time of year for many reasons. Your family’s traditions give you a sense of place and purpose, reminding you that we’re all one in the same doing our best in this world. As this season continues, I am grateful for those who have been part of my journey. Thank you, truly, for making this season so special.

What makes Fall a loved time of year by you? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
