Sizzling Cold Case
With Buddy Ebsen
Buddy Ebsen, the beloved Hollywood Icon, was an incredibly talented man, whom I had the good fortune to call my friend. He passed away on July 5, 2003, at the age of 95. Buddy had been working on a Barnaby Jones novel. I was thrilled when Dorothy, his widow, asked if I would complete Buddy’s work-in-progress. Since I assisted him with his first novel and other projects, I was familiar with Buddy’s style, and able to write in his voice. I found this somewhat unusual collaboration an engaging project, as well as a labor of love for a man I very much admired.
The actual manuscript was less than 100 pages long, therefore, I needed to add a few words, characters, and sub-plots to craft a novel. However I remained true to Buddy’s concept and felt as if he was right beside me and approved of the creative license his widow allowed. The core story is his, as well as some of the dramatic scenes. And since this was written in Buddy’s (or perhaps Barnaby’s) unique voice, I am no longer certain which scenes came from Buddy’s pen and which were my addition. Sizzling Cold Case is not a ghost written book, nor did the multi-talented actor need one. It was published in 2007.
